Everyone should have a healthy, secure home. We’re building with natural materials to make it possible.

What goes into a natural building?

  • Stick frame

Straw bale homes start with a normal stick frame. The frame sits between a good foundation and roof.

  • Straw bale in-fill

The straw bales are two feet thick. We nestle them into the stick frame. Excellent insulation for humid summers and cold winters.

  • Storing carbon

Many local farms have an excess of straw at the end of each growing season. The straw stores carbon so if it is burned or allowed to rot then that carbon is released into the atmosphere. Carbon released into the atmosphere contributes to climate change. By storing the straw in our walls, we store some carbon. Straw insulation also makes the home feel cozy year round.

  • Three story buildings are possible

Stick framing makes the structure sturdy enough to go three stories high.

  • Earthen floors that radiate heat

Earthen floors are made of cob and polished with linseed oil. It feels amazing to walk on them. The floors can be heated with hot water circulating through pex pipes underneath the flooring.
